  • I experienced a great sense of divinity in this temple. The premises is vast and very well maintained. Being a greatly popular temple I expected a lot of rules to follow in the premises and I also won...  more »
  • Nice experience than visiting this temple! To my knowledge the only one that foreigners can visit (discreetly). We were able to attend and participate in processions without that that shocks people. Religious holidays take place primarily from January to April prefer these periods. Several deities are worshipped in these places, there is something for everyone. The pictures inside are banned. A must see!

  • This temple is also called Ladies Sabarimala with Goddess Kannaki (Parvathi devi) as the main deity. Attukal Pongala festival has find its place in Guinness Book of World Records for being the single largest gathering of women for a religious activity. The temple is not inviting any one to participate in this pongala festival but the participation of lady devotees is increasing drastically over the years. Attukal Temple only 2km away from Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple at East Fort. This can even reached by walking around 15-20 minutes from East Fort, if interested.
  • Sabarimala of women: this is the most popular description of this ultra famous Bhagavathi temple in Thiruvananthapuram city. Most famous for the annual Pongala held here. Can get extremely crowded even on non-festive days if one visits on Tuesdays, Fridays or Sundays. Ample parking space.
  • Attukal Bagavathy Temple is near by (1.5 to 2 km) Lord Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The deity is Parvathi (Kannagi). There is mythological story behind the construction of temple as als name of the viilage. Every year during Attukal Pongala Mahotsavam (10 days festival) which falls on February - March every year (Malayalam month of Kumbham). Pongala rituals are participated only by women. The Attukal Pongala is the single largest gathering of women for a religious purpose. It made a Guinness record in March,2009 by 2.5 million of women participating in the event.
  • Loved the tradition there. I was there once by 5 pm and the re-opening of the Temple in the evening was celebrated very nice with full of crackers. Temple architecture was so nice as it was having big statues of Lord Hanuman and other gods. Yearly festival was celebrated so great here. Gents should enter the Temple without shirt. Lid the Deepam at the entrance. Don't take or encourage to take flower mala to the temple as it was not that useful.
  • This temple is well known as Sabarimala of Women. Lakhs of women's come here during Pongala festival
