Admire an impressive five-tiered gateway tower covered with elaborate colored carvings at Uppiliappan Temple, an important Hindu temple dedicated to Venkateswara, an avatar of Lord Vishnu. Constructed in Dravidian style of architecture in late 8th century, the temple features exquisite paintings of ten avatars of Vishnu and images of Lord Rama, Lord Garuda Azhwar and Hanuman. A holy tank inside the temple premises and its gardens provide calm and restful atmosphere to numerous visitors. Check out a mahout riding a decorated temple elephant through a pillared corridor out in the holy tank located on temple’s premises. Very clean temple and was well decorated at the time I had been there. There is a temple pond which is well maintained with proper barricades. The temple also had an elephant at the entrance which was mejastic. Overall, the place was neat, peaceful and devotional.

The lord is said to be the elder brother of Thirupathi Venkateswara. It is nearby Kumbakonam railway station and bus stand. Easily accessible through public transport. Lots of buses ply till the entrance of temple. You can taste really nice prasadams here in temple which will have no traces of salt. (Salt is skipped purposefully)
