Way out west, the small city of Dwarka has a long history of pilgrimage, as a place central to Hindu mythology and belief. Said to be the place where Krishna created his capital city, the town represents one of the four holiest cities in the country. Its temples, set against the rugged coastline, represent the main attractions of Dwarka for all visitors, while a number of museums help to explain the complex mythological roots of the city, and the stories of dynastic conquest, sacking, and rebuilding that mark the history of Dwarka throughout the Middle Ages. Add Dwarka and other destinations in India to your travel itinerary using our India road trip tool.

Where to stay in Dwarka

As a major point of Hindu pilgrimage, you'll find a number of accommodations located close to the main temple in Dwarka. With the city built only on a small scale, you won't have too many problems accessing the main sites, regardless of where you stay in town. By the same token, however, places in the city can fill up very quickly, particularly during August and September when a range of festivities are held. Hotels go from mid-range to basic, and you'll also find some dormitory-style lodging in town.
