Periyar Tiger Reserve provides a home for many rare, endemic, and endangered animals living in a protected environment. Encompassing 925 sq km (357 sq mi) and including two major rivers, this delicate ecosystem sits in the pristine landscape of the Pandalam and Cardamom Hills. Tigers, elephants, and the endangered Nilgiri tahr are just some of the creatures inhabiting the park. Take a boating trip to the Periyar Lake to see cormorants floating on the water's surface and elephants drinking from the misty shore. Check the website for boat tour times and bring binoculars to spot the wildlife easier. Make Periyar Tiger Reserve a part of your Thekkady vacation plans using our Thekkady itinerary planner.
