Periyar National Park, Thekkady
Categories: National Parks, Nature & Parks
Best known for its elephant and tiger reserves, Periyar National Park hosts a trove of rare, endemic plants and wildlife in the Cardamom Hills. Flora enthusiasts will love identifying orchids, elephant grass, teak, banyans, and a medicinal plant called gloriosa lily. Many species of animals wander the park, including exotic birds, jungle cats, bears, monkeys, and more. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Indian elephants and Bengal tigers. If you are lucky, you may even spot one of the few white tigers living in the national park. You can embark on jungle walks and lake tours, although neither can guarantee sightings of the animals you hope to see most. Our Thekkady trip itinerary builder makes visiting Periyar National Park and other Thekkady attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

Best location for a day or two day trip, most seasons not able to see any wild animals but you can enjoy the beautiful weather. The KTDC trained cure are well mannered and very helpful and explain each and every important corner on your 1.5 hour boat journey. No need advance booking, you can buy tickets directly from the KTDC boat operating office. First boat trip starts from 9.00 Am and every 1.5 hour they schedule service up to 3.00 PM
Beautiful place. Need to do boat reservations a day ahead. Great scenic beauty.
Its good for trekkers and one needs to plan early morning trip so that you get a chance to see animals. If you have small kids, better choose different reservoirs as you can't even move or walk on the boat.
You are lucky if you get to see elephants. Not really worth spending full day. Limited entries force you to have advance booking
Secluded.. private paradise in India kept well preserved. Saw wild elephants swim across a lake and frolic. . Saw numerous samba and deer and wild boar. ... multitude of birds ans wonderful flora too.
