#3 of 35 in Nature in Idukki District
National Park Nature / Park
Best known for its elephant and tiger reserves, Periyar National Park hosts a trove of rare, endemic plants and wildlife in the Cardamom Hills. Flora enthusiasts will love identifying orchids, elephant grass, teak, banyans, and a medicinal plant called gloriosa lily. Many species of animals wander the park, including exotic birds, jungle cats, bears, monkeys, and more. Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for Indian elephants and Bengal tigers. If you are lucky, you may even spot one of the few white tigers living in the national park. You can embark on jungle walks and lake tours, although neither can guarantee sightings of the animals you hope to see most. Our Thekkady trip itinerary builder makes visiting Periyar National Park and other Thekkady attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Beautiful place. We went on a boat ride and saw some elephants roaming in the wild. 1.5 hours ride amidst the jungle was very relaxing. Some say that if you're lucky, you might even spot a tiger.
  • Was a great experience around the wild, boat safari and lot more to do here. Book it all prior and enjoy your holidays. Staff and forest department are enough friendly so no need to panic at all. Go green, go wild 👍 lot to inhale 😊 Cameras, binoculars, proper human senses would be the great combination to enjoy to the core. Btw there's entry time, they don't allow other vehicles up except of authorized vehicles" and entry is restricted from 5pm-6am. And you can hire bikes or even walk 👍
  • The natural beauty of the landscape rejuvenates one. One can watch the denizens of the forest in their natural habitat from a distance, under the professional guidance the forest department offers. The park hospitality services are superb, food excellant.
  • Nice place, good climate, also u can see animals on the way to boating point. It's better to stay in Periyar House (KTDC) so that you can see wild animals behind the Hotel.
  • Awesome... take evening or early morning boating... Book early usually tickets gets sold out... Now personal cars are not allowed...one has to park in parking and visit boat landing by forest bus. They charge 20 rs per person. Parking is 80 rs.
