  • Initially the entire city was fortified but what is now referred to as the fort is the fortified trading post. Please refer to my review of the Fort under Fort Dansborg  more »

  • Best place to enjoy with family. Public facilities are coming up. Museum also having public facilities. Such a large open ground with peripheral wall one can sit for a while and enjoy the snacks available there. When you stand in the beach you can enjoy the sound of music coming from the Waves of the sea. You can sit in front of the fort to enjoy the breeze. You can also move inside the fort and museum or in the lawns inside. Go early to move around the township to enjoy the building marvels too.
  • Port town and official head quarters of the Danish during when Indian subcontinent was under European colonial rule. The fort is restored and maintained well now for public view. Danish governors' bungalow and maritime museum are situated nearby. Most of the structure in and around the place are built during 16th and 17th century. Good visual treat for children and history lovers. Must place for them to see..
  • Excellent place! Indian government should have taken more steps to protect the fort and the places history ... The site was greatly damaged in 2004 tsunami.
  • Danish fort in tranquebar, Tamil nadu, nice view when morning sunrays fall on it.
  • Tharangambadi Fort, popularly known as the Danish Fort, is an imposing structure on the seashore, overlooking the Bay of Bengal in the sleepy little town of Tranquebar or Tharangambadi. This small town was Denmark’s sole outpost in India. Interestingly, not many people know about Denmark’s role in the history of Indian colonial rule so Tranquebar, with its history steeped in the Danish influence is worth visiting if you’d like to gain some interesting and not-so-well-known insights into Indian history. The fort has been extensively renovated by the local people and the Danes, and is in a decent condition.
