Thanjavur Royal Palace and Art Gallery, Thanjavur

(1.5/5 based on 220+ reviews on the web)
Thanjavur Royal Palace and Art Gallery fascinates for its immaculate cascade architecture and numerous historical relics. Seven different sections display artifacts demonstrating the lavish lifestyle of various royal families, and you’ll need different tickets to visit them all. See the mind-blowing Durbar hall--a multi-columned hall painted in vibrant natural colors and ornately decorated from top to bottom. Visit Saraswati library, which holds an extensive collection of books and manuscripts about Indian plants and animals, world atlases, medieval books, and many others. You can also admire intriguing Chola sculptures in bronze and stone, but the real highlight sits near the tower: the massive skeleton of a whale.
