Constructed across the Krishna River, Srisailam Dam is the second largest capacity hydroelectric station in India. The deep gorge in which it lies is 300 m (980 ft) above sea level, 512 m (1,680 ft) long, 145 m (476 ft) high and has a reservoir of 616 square kilometers (238 sq mi). The hydroelectric function of the dam provides power to an assortment of nearby towns. On its own, the dam is surrounded by seas of green, as hills roll away in every direction providing spectacular views.
