Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangapatna
(4.5/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web)
Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is the first of the five sacred sites along the river dedicated to a resting form of Lord Vishnu. The temple dates as far back as the 10th century, which can be seen from an inscription found at the site. Its most prominent feature is gopura (a tower) rising over the entrance gate. Pass through the pillared hall to get to the inner sanctum, which holds a statue of Lord Vishnu lying on the coil of the seven-headed serpent king--one of the primal beings in Hindu religion. Look for the three-dimensional reliefs depicting the same subject on one of the minor shrines in the courtyard. • Nice place to reamp your spiritual energy. And its one of the 3 ranganathurs , which lines in a stright line . Then last ranganathur is in srirangam
  • Worth visiting while enroute to mysore from Bangalore. This is one of the top attractions of Srirangapatana.Although bit crowded because of devotees beeline this temple, but it is worth visiting.
  • 12 kilometres, this temple is a place of prayer, very important to a lot of Indian in the region. We went for a Sunday, may not be the best day if you want to be alone, but a very good day to be in the mood of a place of worship in India. (we were the only Westerners). No main photo inside the temple and to leave his shoes outside. Remember to put the pants and clothing that covers the shoulders. It is a place so Holy respect...
