Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple, Srirangapatna

Categories: Landmarks, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.5/5 based on 110+ reviews on the web
Sri Ranganathaswamy Temple is the first of the five sacred sites along the river dedicated to a resting form of Lord Vishnu. The temple dates as far back as the 10th century, which can be seen from an inscription found at the site. Its most prominent feature is gopura (a tower) rising over the entrance gate. Pass through the pillared hall to get to the inner sanctum, which holds a statue of Lord Vishnu lying on the coil of the seven-headed serpent king--one of the primal beings in Hindu religion. Look for the three-dimensional reliefs depicting the same subject on one of the minor shrines in the courtyard. • Nice but to many people trying to get in are like in another universe while getting closer to the small window to see statue from 20m. Choose dates outside of any festival. Not worth for queueing 1h. The area around is extremely dirty and smelly.
