Sinthan Top, Srinagar

4.6
#6 of 26 in Sightseeing in Srinagar
Landmark Tourist Spot
Sinthan Top offers panoramic views of the area's snowcapped mountains and low-lying regions. Sited 3,658 m (12,000 ft) above sea level, the spot is easily accessible thanks to a highway, but you'll still have to navigate challenging serpentines to reach the top. Once there, trek farther up the hill for even better 360-degree views, or simply walk on snow. Note that the winds can be strong and the sun scorching here, so dress appropriately and put on some sunscreen. Where to stay in Srinagar

The moderate climate of Srinagar has made it a popular destination for locals during the summer, hence its good range of accommodations. Hotels basic and luxury, great and small, jostle for position alongside the main waterways, and across from the city's many historic gardens. However, staying on a houseboat on Dal Lake remains the most iconic way to ejoy your Srinagar holiday, with options ranging from budget to high-end. If you don't fancy spending your nights on the water, the palatial scale of the main tourist area makes it one of the more relaxing and popular areas to stay in. More cost-effective accommodations sit on the side streets of the residential districts further to the north.

  • This is yet to be developed as a tourist destination, so there is no crowd. But this is in south Kashmir, which is a hub of terrorists, so it is not safe to visit this place alone. Otherwise the natural beauty of this place is splendid. You find a beautiful waterfall at Daksum on the way from Achabal. You will not find any tourist here. Hardly any tourist goes there once in a while. The beauty of Sinthan top is that it is at the very top of a mountain. Most of this place is snow covered. There are two huts in which some local people live, who sell Maggi, tea and chips to the occasional tourist who goes there. These people stay there for 5-6 days in a stretch before going back to their village to bring stuff. You will find sheeps and goats grazing on top. There is a jeep in which some locals carry warm clothes and sledge for tourists to ride. One can enjoy sledge ride on snow. But, in general, Kashmir is not a place recommended for tourists, because all the time there is danger of terrorists, riots, stone pelting. There have been incidents with tourists in the past.
