Pari Mahal, Srinagar

(4.2/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web)
Take an autorickshaw ride up to Pari Mahal, a walled set of gardens providing a notable view of the surrounding area. Built during the 17th century as a library and residence for Mughal Prince Dara Shikoh, the arches and stone walls of the seven-terraced garden represent fine examples of contemporary Islamic architecture and design. Overlooking the nearby city and lake, the gardens offer extensive views of the surrounding area, with its uninterrupted vistas chief among the reasons so many take the trip up here. • Amazing view of Dal lake from this place. Lovely garden around this place to sit and watch the beautiful dal lake.
  • Great views of the city and if you are a history buff then it is a must see as this is one of the very few surviving monuments that were built by Dara Shikoh. The terraces are decently maintained. Spe...  more »

  • One of my most favourite, Pari Mahal is quite different from the other Mughal Gardens of Kashmir. Infact I don't even think, it can even qualify to be called a Mughal Garden. Believed to be an ancient Buddhist Monastery, which was later converted to a library and astronomy study centre by Dara Shikoh, a Mughal prince. Pari Mahal has no water, no fountains and not even the size of Nishat or SHALIMAR. But it this difference that makes it beautiful. A plain garden in historical ruins, gives it its own charm. Nestled on the foothills of Zabarwan Hills, the place gives you a wonder view of Dal Lake.  The road to Pari Mahal is narrow, but covered with enough trees to make it beautiful. Parking at the garden is a problem, if driving on your own. I would suggest, if you have time, walk down from Pari Mahal to Chashme Shahi. It is a beautiful walk, with lovely breeze. Inhale as much pure fresh air you can before you are be back to inhale the polluted air.  Remember the song 'Tum aa gaye ho, noor as gaya hai' from the film Aandhi. Yes, it was shot here.
  • Palace overlooking the main dal lake area and other important landmarks of the city. Very good sceneries available from the top. Recommended !!!
  • Nice place with overview of Sri Nagar. Multi layer design is simply amazing.
  • One can see major part of dal lack & srinagar from here.. awesome landscapes... heritage building..
  • This place is one of the most attraction for tourists because here you can see whole srinagar city with naked eye.this place was constructed by price Dara sikoh he made this place a school. School of astrology
