4.5/5 based on 180+ reviews on the web
Stop at Kheer Bhawani Temple, built on a spring that symbolizes the goddess of its namesake (folklore maintains that the waters turn black if the region is to suffer any disasters). Kashmiri Brahmans gather here in May or June for an annual festival. Otherwise, it remains pleasantly untouristed. Soak up the peaceful atmosphere at the ancient place of worship surrounded by lush chinar trees. You can eat inexpensively on site. • one of the oldest temple in the world yet well maintained and one can connect oneself with the GODDESS OF UNIVERSE "MATA SHARIKA DEVI" OR OTHER NAMESAKE & unwind... There is a special prayer collectively sung by all devotees which touches & flows through ur consciousness & pours deep into ur heart thus purifies the soul and you feel a slight energetic vibration/sensation in yourself & the voice echos which itself means u get connected with the supreme power which is a "MOMENT OF TRUTH" .This depicts the presence of ETERNAL GODDESS/GOD/Devis/Devtas,Sidh Manush/Sadhus etc. The prayer is like this," OM JAI JAGDISH HARE, SWAMI JAI JAGDISH HARE, BAKTH JANO KE SANKAT, KHEN MEIN DOOR KAREN,SWAMI JAI JAGDISH HARE......& goes on .....on.....on & is in the form of humble request to the WHOLESOME COLLECTIVELY NATURE which itself is "THE SUPREME POWER IN THE UNIVERSE".
  • I was on an official tour to Ganderbal District in 2012. On my way back to Srinagar I was told by a Muslim officer about the temple and he only took me there. It was evening. The temple was illuminated. It looked magical. Being a Bengali, I had heard about the temple from Swami Vivekananda's writings. I was in a hurry and to reach Srinagar back. I had a great longing for visiting the temple. Mata called me in June 2013. My dream was fulfilled. Mata is very kind. She fulfils all pious wishes. Rita Chatterjee New Delhi
