Fort Aguada, Sinquerim

3.8
A well-preserved structure constructed in 1612, Fort Aguada sits on the mouth of River Mandovi, placed there to fend of the Dutch and the Marathas. Examine how the entire strategic construction is divided into two sections, with the upper part used as a water station and fort, and the lower as a berth for ships. The lighthouse was used to guide ships safely to their docks, until it was abandoned in 1976. Deep inside, discover the escape passage that enabled retreat during war and other emergencies. • Since we were staying in Taj fort Agauda, made a lot of sense to visit the fort itself. We took the scenic path from bay view to sunset point. First thing first, it's huge. The entire walled fort is e...  more »
  • This is a good size fort and very famous one in Goa. There is a big and tall lighthouse once you enter fort area. On the backside of the fort you will view of ocean which looks absolutely amazing.  more »
  • Aguada fort doesn't have the size of Golconda or Chitradurga fort. Nor does it have the beauty of Bekal fort that is near the sea. All you see is a large courtyard within the wall with full of people ...  more »

  • Not exactly a fort. Was earlier used a water harvesting and reservoir for water supply. Nice view of the water body below from top of the fort. A large quadrangle presents nice seating and viewing. The fort is visible while taking boat ride at Coco beach. Parking available. Nice lemon soda is also available at the parking site. You can see the sunset from this fort which is very beautiful when the sun sinks into the horizon.. The fort's architecture is also good.. Stay here for as long as you want. I love this place and the path that takes you to here. The hills, the sea and the lighthouse everything about this place is beautiful and kind of musical. You can pick a spot and stay there for hours watching people come and go just like the waves on the other side.
  • It's best visited in the evening. Daylight is so bright and hot. It's 400 years old and well preserved. It was not only a fort which had 79 cannons but also largest water storage for replenishing fresh water in Portuguese ships. It may take up to 1 hour to see the fort completely. Recommended only if interested in architecture and/or history.
  • The fort is very big and is well maintained even though its mostly crowded with tourists. The view of the ocean from the tall height of the fort makes it worth visiting it. A good Background for a professional photographer ,The view from the fort is very delighting. awesome shooting place , scenery outside looks great, Panoramic view gives you an excitement to see the nature one side sea and the other side nature like greenery hill. Aguada fort is more like a light house and water tank than a fort. It has got what can be called largest tank at its time with capacity of about 23,76,000 gallons of water plenty enough for entire Goa at that time. Plus it has got 16 chambers . Overall nice experience. It has got a beautiful view of sea and city from top. The road that takes you up the hill to this Fort makes up for a wonderful drive.
  • A very good tourist attraction. The place is neatly maintained. As any fort would have, this place has good sea views and you can walk around the perimeter on the fort and sea beach. There is a lighthouse as well but closed for tourists. Parking is free and there is refreshments available outside the fort. A must visit when you come to Goa.
  • Nice historical fort...... Free of cost public washroom available outside fort. Drinking is available inside the fort. Best time to visit is before 11am , as the weather gets warmer after that. Get something to stuff you stomach with before you reach here as you won't find any good eateries here. Other than that, this place us nice.....
