4.5/5 based on 200+ reviews on the web
Standing at 1500 m (4921 ft) above sea level, Rumtek Monastery remains a spiritual and cultural highpoint shrouded with mystery. Built in the 16th century, the monastery exudes a sense of antiquity, while the colorful and highly ornate architecture enchants at every turn. See the 4 m (13 ft) high golden stupa, bejeweled with ancient turquoise and coral, and decorated with filigree and metalwork. Feel the peaceful energy wrapping around your body, mind, and soul as you make a wish at the prayer wheels. While at the monastery, visit the Nallanda institute, a college for Buddhist monks. • It is one of the most beautiful monastries Sikkim offers. As a foreigner don't forget to take your passport. They control you at the entrance.
  • The exterior and interior of this monastery were absolutely sublime. You will need to have you passport checked upon entry, so dont forget to bring it along. This was my favorite thing in Gantok!
  • Green environment with cool ambient. Buddha Statue is a good place to take pics. Overall clean, green and natural place.
  • Worth visiting monestry. Buddhist school also in same premises.
  • Beautiful and Serene place
  • Rumtek is situated in a beautiful land surrounded by himalayala's. The place is serene, naturally rich. The roads are good and clean. Rumtek is very well maintained temple. Ambiance was great, absolute silence all around the monastery. You may discover yourself as there is no distraction. Best place if anyone wants to do meditation. Take your identity card with you as you are required to show it at the entrance
  • For senior citizens the climb can be tiring...
