Kodachadri, Shimoga

4.7
#2 of 19 in Things to do in Shimoga
Trek at Kodachadri, a mountain peak with dense woods, which is ranked as the 10th highest peak of Karnataka. Hike at an elevation of 1.343 m (4.406 ft) above sea level, as the trek offers a trip through the mixture of dense greenery, high waterfalls, cliff-drops, and views of the Arabian Sea. One of the main reasons people climb this peak is the unforgettable sights of sunrise and sunset. Spot some of the rare fauna the peak offers--langurs, hornbills, and elephants, among others. See also a small temple near the peak, as well as an iron pillar, which reminds of excellent ironworking skills of ancient Indians. • Very serene to visit and relax your mind. While nothing stops you from taking your vehicle atop, you are strongly advised not to risk it. Pathway is steep, and unless you are a really skilled driver. Better to hire a jeep which costs about 200 per head. Weather and views are pleasant. There are two temples, one where the vehicles halt, and other on hill top.
  • Nice place for a day trip. Though it lacks the connectivity, but worth visiting if you have your own vehicle. The water body is calm and the surrounding is serene.
  • Wonderful place to visit for people of all age groups. A high place. Very nice views awaiting you if you choose the walkway to the hilltop. A temple of the goddess and another temple is available there. Place to stay is available. Guest house is there and the priest also accommodates some in his home. The well celebrated sarvajnapeetham is walkable from there. Early morning views are superb. The clouds will be floating in height beneath us. Simply superb.
  • Beautiful hill station located in the western ghats. Trekking will be great here. Also local vehicles are available to take you to the peak. You will get an amazing waterfall if you go trekking. Also jeep drive will be great as the roads are crazy to drive on. Do not take your vehicles there it wouldn't be easy unless it is a 4-wheel drive. Scenary will be good if you visit in monsoon and roads will equally bad because of rainfall, wet and slippery. Best time to visit is June to August
  • Only jeeps can reach this place.. Kindly don't try to go with your own vehicles.. 200 Rs per person is standard rate drivers charge. Carry your own food as you won't find any restaurants on top of the hill.
