Viceregal Lodge, Shimla

(4.6/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
A trip to Viceregal Lodge allows you to examine some of the most evocative articles and photographs from the British rule in India. Completed in 1888, this historically significant building was built in the Jacobethan style by the British architect Henry Irwin. Visit the staterooms that show how the entire building has been transformed into a university complex, or walk through the immaculately maintained gardens that surround the former Indian viceroy's summer residence. A short walk west of the estate you'll find the summit of Observatory Hill, which provides panoramic views over the region. • Viceragal lodge located in shimla is one of the architectural symphonies in india. It's around 5 km form the mall road and have to climb up some way to reach there. Vehicles are allowed to drop people there and pay parking is also available. A meagre entrance fee is also present for getting into the building and half of it to spend time in the beautifully arranged and well maintained lawn. There are many good photo locations which give the impression of foreign countries. It's a must visit place in shimla and it's a life time experience especially for the photography lovers here
  • The viceroy used to live here during British rule. One of most magnificent British era building. You can see lots of ancient things that hold immense historic value. There is a museum in compound also. Since Independence the premises is used as campus for Indian institute for advanced studies
  • The perfect example of colonial architect which existed in the time of britishers .Must visit place in Shimla.better to take a taxi from mall road
  • Stunning place.. The guided tour is quite awful, so the person to catch hold of is Raaja Bhasin take you around.
  • A place of immense beauty and peace. You can get up their either by car or walking. I recommend walking because you get to experience the wondrous nature all around you. Normal people aren't allowed entry inside the building which sucks but is understandable because scholars study there.
