At Jakhu Temple, see the red 33 m (108 ft) tall idol of the Hindu deity, Hanuman. Locals believe that Hanuman, also known as the Monkey Lord, brings fortune to those who embark on an uphill trek to reach his sacred refuge. At an altitude of 2,455 m (8,000 ft), the ancient temple also harbors its most peculiar denizens--monkeys--who signify the god's omnipresence. However, be sure to secure all your belongings when you reach the site, because these creatures are known to take anything they can get their hands on. Before leaving the temple, ring the bell for good luck before descending back to the city. Jakhu Temple is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Shimla Edition.

  • To visit, it's an interesting uphill stroll. The temple and statue are okay. I really went for the monkeys but didn't realize how assertive they were. Be careful. I saw someone who lost their prescrip...  read more »
  • Highest point of Shimla. A tall statue of lord Hanuman ji is there. A neat n clean temple is located on the peak. Beware of monkeys though. An adventurous trek from ridge to jakhu.....though now cars go right up to the top.
  • One of the most famous temple in all of Shimla and also the gathering point of Shimla's monkey. If you decide to go up to the temple (and I would recommend trekking), make sure to hide your snatchable stuff, or it will be forcefully taken away by the monkeys.
  • I have visited this temple twice while in shimla, must visit place for hanuman ji worshiper. Be careful about monkeys, do not wear your spectacle, monkeys will take it and will return only when you give them some chana.
  • Impressive statue, stunning place to visit. Good climb to reach up there. Be careful to the monkeys as they are very skilled stealers.
  • Must Visit in Winters, Totally Cool and I meant it. This temple is related with one of the Grand epic of India,The Ramayana!!! To get Success, hardwork is Key. Temple is situated at the highest point, can hire Cab... But what's Fun in riding there without enjoying the sceneries, serenity? Or can take stairs, Enjoy every Moment with Heavenly Nature.. Beware Of Monkeys!! Very calming place. Don't forget to collect a Pic from Canteen -Souvenir!!! Jai Bajrangbali!!!!!
