Jakhu Temple, Shimla
(4.4/5 based on 1,100+ reviews on the web)
At Jakhu Temple, see the red 33 m (108 ft) tall idol of the Hindu deity, Hanuman. Locals believe that Hanuman, also known as the Monkey Lord, brings fortune to those who embark on an uphill trek to reach his sacred refuge. At an altitude of 2,455 m (8,000 ft), the ancient temple also harbors its most peculiar denizens--monkeys--who signify the god's omnipresence. However, be sure to secure all your belongings when you reach the site, because these creatures are known to take anything they can get their hands on. Before leaving the temple, ring the bell for good luck before descending back to the city. Jakhu Temple is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Shimla Edition.

  • No hustle and bustle except the notorious monkeys they just try to snatch everything you have with you!! But this place is the best to visit if you are in shimla!! The best time to visit is in February and march when the temperature is neither cold nor hot!! Ideal time to visit
  • The hanuman idol stands at 108 feet tall. Beware of Monkeys who might scare you or snatch some things. However, they are a part and parcel of the temple and one should enjoy it as a part of the visit to temple. Jakhu Temple is an ancient "Lord Hanuman" temple and every year a big festival is held on Dushera. You can go to the temple by foot (a steep climb) from Ridge (path behind the church) or can hire a pony/horse. Taxis are available and will help you reduce the distance to very less stairs climbing. There is also a children's play area inside the temple premises. Check the uploaded pics for further details.
  • Best Place to Visit in Shimla. 1800 meter away from Mall Road. Temple is Super and Peaceful place. Worlds highest statue - Lord Hanuman (108ft) is here at the hight of 8100ft attitude. Beware from monkeys. Please maintain the peaceful environment.
  • The jakhu temple is famous for Lord hanuman, who rested there while coming back from the sanjeevnibooti hill. There is abig statue of Lord hanuman, which is visible from the mall road. Its a high steep trekking and on the whole way you could find monkeys who will check your pockets if they could find any eatable. SO take care
  • Nice peaceful temple on a hilltop with a good view.. Huge statue of Lord Hanuman is the main attraction.. Lot of monkeys around though.. Long uphill trek if u go on foot, try to go slowly if you have difficulty going uphill, but very satisfying once you get to the top..
