Lady Hydari Park, Shillong
Categories: Gardens, Nature & Parks
Designed to resemble a Japanese garden, Lady Hydari Park features a mini zoo, a museum, a special play area for kids, and colorful stretches of rose beds (the park’s most praised feature). Named after the wife of Assam’s first governor, this lush nature haven in the middle of a busy city is home to a diverse wildlife--73 bird species, 100 species of reptiles and 40 of other mammals including porcupine leopard and Himalayan black bear. Stroll among the trees of pines and willows, around small ponds occupied with graceful swans. Take an educational walk through the museum and see elephant skulls and a python’s skin mounted on a wall.
