Shri Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, Rishikesh

(4/5 based on 300+ reviews on the web)
Perched at 1,330 m (4,363 ft), Shri Neelkanth Mahadev Temple draws scores of devotees of Lord Shiva. Three valleys surround this colorful multi storey Hindu temple, set against the spectacular background of the Nar Narajan mountains. According to Samudra manthan, one of Hindu mythology's best-known episodes, Shiva's throat turned blue here after taking poison from the ocean. Explore the popular and significant complex featuring many sculptures depicting the story, as well as a natural spring in which devotees take a ritual bath. Drive 32 km (19 mi) from Rishikesh or take a cab from Ram Jhula Rishikesh. The place is well-connected with narrow roads but has limited parking. • Neelkanth Mahadev temple is different than the temples in Haridwar and Rishikesh. It is little over one hour drive into Himalayas from Rishikesh. Enroute you find quite a few resorts specializing in r...  more »
  • It's a good temple, pretty peaceful. It takes almost 45 minutes to drive up, then you have to walk a little ways. It's not wheelchair accessible. Great views.

  • Must drive there also...if you were in rishikesh..nice memories...but don't buy anything here.... shopkeeper are very bad at this place...
  • Visited on 11 September 2016. Good Experience. Nice place to visit with family. 1.Roads are curved at almost every point so you might get nauseous. TIP: Eat less before going. 2.Roads are damaged in between due to rain but at the end the road is broken , so you have to walk 2 kms (we walked 3 km because the road was damaged at 2 points but it was replaced so when we came back we walked 2 km). You can also use a car that can be hired after crossing the broken part by walking. Rs.10 per head. PRO TIP: Don't go when it's raining or it's cloudy.
  • This place is well connected via road transport from Rishikesh and also you can trekking path are there that is made by there local people. I had that place and we decide to go with trek path trail, it takes 4 hours to reach there. and the most important is the Temple is very beautiful as once you be there you feel spiritual environment.
  • Neelkanth was a beautiful place to visit and the neelkanth mahadev temple was also beautiful
  • Peace and Beauty -- These r the 2 things u will find here. Mesmerizing views and Try not to come here in SAWAN month(JULY-AUGUST) Otherwise u will find a 5 hour long queue on stairs. Roads may b painfull if u come in or after rainy season. And one more thing, Here u can find Original Rudraksha inside its fruit just 30-40 rs per piece.
