Lakshman Jhula, Rishikesh

(4.1/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Walk across Lakshman Jhula to quickly get from one side of the Ganges River to the other. Before 1939, the only way to cross the river was by a bridge made of jute ropes. As floods happen on a regular basis here, a sturdier construction was needed to withstand the seasonal torrents. At one side of this suspension bridge, you can visit a temple filled with religious paintings and sculptures, while on the other you can explore a shrine known for elaborately carved icons of Hindu deities. The area around the bridge bustles with life, so do not expect any peace and quiet here. • we liked the architecture and view from jhula. and yes the thrill of movement in the bridge is nice. its very crowded during afternoon and evening so prefer night.
  • Evening walk along the river was unwinding! there are several Ganga Aartis in the evening. for photos and prayer.
  • The sheer view of the Ganges makes this a must visit place. Very nice place but overcrowded most of the time.

  • Laxman Jhula is one of the two main bridges across river Ganga, in Rishikesh. This is a famous landmark, and is surrounded by temples, hotels, cafes, etc. There are taxi stands on either sides of the bridge. you find lot's of rush in day, so i advise that you take a walk at night when there was absolutely no crowd. it is a different experience.Very calm and relaxing environment.

  • Lakshman Jhula is a suspension bridge that connects two banks of River Ganga in Rishikesh. This bridge is used by pedestrians and two wheelers to cross River Ganga.
  • This is older ropeway bridge to cross ganga. Just stand at the center of the bridge and you can enjoy the full swing of the bridge.
