Pahari Mandir, Ranchi

4.4
#2 of 9 in Historic Sites in Ranchi
A charming imposing temple of Lord Shankara, another name for Lord Shiva, Pahari Mandir is located on the top of a huge Ranchi hill of altitude 2140 feet from sea level. Ranch hill was known earlier as Phansi Tongri and it is the place where freedom fighters were hanged to death. To remember the importance of this hill in the freedom movement, tricolor flag is unfurled on the Independence Days and Republic days.

The surroundings are picturesque and to reach the temple at the top of the mountain requires tapping up of more than 300 steps. Many devotees visit this place to make their wishes and also make the opportunity to thank Lord Shiva for the blessings. A bird’s view of the whole Ranchi city is possible from the temple premises and the view is really an enchanting eye pleasing experience. The trees of different species add to the beauty of the hill especially during the rainy season. During Shravan time, the devotees offer Jal (Dhara) to temple deity and the Shravan season is a major draw of visitors.

  • This is one of the best and popular tourist attractions in Ranchi. It is located at a great 2392 ft. The views from the top is mesmerizing. You can see almost every part of Ranchi from here. India's highest flag post is on the top. Atmosphere is very spiritual. This place is under construction right now.
  • Best place to visit for all generation people. Famous for it shiv temple. Situated on a hill so people also come for picnic here after worship.
  • This is a very good place, it is a famous temple of Ranchi. People here come from far away to Lord's Darshan, here are 700-800 steps. I like this place and advise you to go there & here's atmosphere is calm. This place is very good for pilgrimage...
  • It's a great place first is the view which is simply awesome you can see the whole city from here and the viewing area is barred by metal rods so it's perfectly safe . The puja here is really great if you are a spiritual person you will definitely love this place . One problem for old and disabled people that you have to climb many stairs to reach the main temple at the top of the mountain and currently there is no lifts here but it's under construction. But you can enjoy the temples below the Mountain. It's a great place to visit for your next vacation.
  • Nice scenic view of city from this hill. Home of Mahakal. And the highest national flag is hosted here. Place of feeling proud too. The place where spirituality meets patriotism. Lord Shankar temple on the hill is mind blowing. Still in developing stage
