Jagannath Temple, Ranchi
Categories: Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Observe a panorama of the city and take some Ayurvedic medicine during festival times at Jagannath Temple, an important Hindu pilgrimage center perched atop a small hillock. Join a beeline of devotees, tribal and non-tribal, climbing the long stairway to reach the temple or take vehicle route for a breathtaking view. Built in 1691 in the same Kalinga architectural style as its namesake temple in Puri, Odisha but smaller, the temple features an elegant cream-colored tower with crimson lining. The original temple collapsed in 1990 and it was fully renovated in 1992 as a brick whitewashed building. Dedicated to Lord Jagganath, this structure is particularly venerated by members of Vaishnavism sect of Hinduism.
