Dhanushkodi Beach, Rameswaram

4.4
#1 of 8 in Parks in Rameswaram
A tour of Dhanushkodi Beach allows you to see how a bustling city became a ghost town after a natural disaster. A 1964 cyclone destroyed a railway line that caused over 100 deaths, while the total toll eventually reached over 1,800 casualties. When you visit, note how small islets and a series of rocks indicate where a small land connection exists between Sri Lanka and the southeastern tip of India. Visit during daylight hours if you don't like exploring spooky abandoned towns on your own. • Dhanushkodi was on my to do list for a long time, as it must be with most people who have experienced the story of Ramayana. As such the place has nothing to offer in terms of luxury or shopping or fo...  more »
  • This is an amazing view here at the last end of south east part of India and nearest point of Sri-lanka. This beach is closed at 6 pm. So should go before 6 pm. Good road upto Dhanushkodi is available...  more »

  • Beautiful view point that is one of the ends of India. It's where two bodies of water meet. It is also once of the best places to eat Fresh fish. The place does get crowded during temple season so plan accordingly.
  • Superbly Amazing place to visit. We watched the sunset. It was breathtaking. A must must visit place. But it has time limitations. Do local shopping. Try fried fish they serve nearby.
  • I had been to this awesome place and trust me it's one of the most beautiful beaches in India. It's mostly untouched by the humans. There will be less crowd in this place and you can enjoy your lonely time alongside the blue beach water. The ruins of Dhanushkodi town are a treat to watch. The color of the sea water reflects so well. If you love photography, you will get some nice snaps here. You can sit by the sea shore and enjoy the waves. Probably you wouldn't want to get into the beach water as the waves are really big enough. Rameshwaram has always been one of my favorite place since my last visit. I really love to visit this place again :)
  • One of the best drive experiences you get as you approach the tip with sea on both side and a narrow strip of road in between. The beach is clean and you can spend good amount of time here. Kids have space to run around. It is about 18km from the main city, connected through a wonderful 2-lane metalled road having excellent view.
  • Peaceful place .......just go there with your bike , if you want to enjoy extreme. And if you are going by bus please go before 7 o’clock evening .
