Admire the striking complex of Jagannath Temple, a Hindu temple dedicated to Jagannath, the Lord of the Universe. The current temple structure was built in 1161 by a local ruler, but it is believed that its origins date back more than 2,000 years. The main shrine, one of 120 temples within the complex, contains a wooden image of the presiding deity. Only Hindus are allowed onto the temple premises, but you can view the massive complex from the roof of a nearby library. A visit to Jagannath Temple represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Puri vacation builder to plot your vacation.

  • One of the most sacred places for Hindu religion. This is an ancient temple. Christians and Muslims are not allowed to enter the temple. You can enjoy a nice beach, local culture and food. Generally a crowded place. A lot of tourists come here every year.
  • I was speechless to see such a wonderful heritage of 800 yrs old. Simply awsome. Our science was so much developed at that time...i salute the engineers who built that sky touching temples in ancient age without the use of computers n hydraulics machines. Off course the PANDAs will irritate u but its better to ignore n focus on darshan to lord Jagannath with full spirituality.

  • The holy place of Hindus, wooden deities of lord Shree Krishna, baldau&subhadra(sister of shreekrishna)are worshipped, the temple is of 12th century based on kaling-Buddha architecture, main festivals are dhan&rathyatra
  • Jagannath dham, One of the 4 dham of Hindus. Other than three dham here Bramha in the name of subhadra ,Vishnu in the name of Jagannath, shiv in the name of Balabhadra are worshipped here. There are many information one can find at different website, mythology, book. So, I am describing here some of the rule to darshan (visit) temple. There are 4 dwar (entries). One should enter east face singhdwar. There are 22 pahach (steps). A stone called “Yamashila” is engraved into the 3rd step, which the devotees must step on while going up the steps [it frees from the reasons to be punished by Yama] but must not step on the stone on the way back, since it takes away the merits of Sri Jagannath darshan. One should touch by stick on his/her head at the end of the step & entry to 2nd. Then you should darshan Lord Ganesh facing towards south situated south to the temple campus. There after you have to touch Kalpabatta brukhya (tree) . After Jagannath darshan One should definitely seat & spend some moment at Goddess Laxmi temple. You can visit different temple inside the temple campus like goddess Mangala, bimala, radhakrushna, kanchi Ganesh, Surya tenple etc. There after at Patali temple you should see Nilachakra as final prayer to Lord jagannath. Finally one can take Lord prasad ( lord sacrified food ) at Anand Bazar.
