Pataleshwar Cave Temple, Pune

Religious Site
Visit Pataleshwar Cave Temple, a hermetic rock-cut complex dedicated to Hindu deities Pataleshwar and Shiva. Because of its construction during the Rashtrakuta period (700 to 800 CE), the site now enjoys protection as a religious monument. Explore the circular nandi mandapa, a pillared outdoor hall that stands in front of the cave. Outside of the basalt stone entryway hangs a brass bell, while the cube-shaped inner sanctum decorated with symbols of Shiva calls devotees to pray and make offerings. Visit the museum nearby, especially since it houses a peculiar Guinness World Record holder: a single grain of rice with 5,000 characters inscribed on it. • Very interesting this former small temple/rock cave. Very stranonche in both cities (at least now, it probably was not so was constructed qnd extended) dedicated to Lord Shiva. Even here peace and tranquillity reign.

  • Amazing stone. We enjoyed a lot full day. Feel cool when entered inside the temple.
  • It is very small temple and a calm place (maybe because I visited on weekday). A archeological site as it is carved out from caves. Food opposite the temple is very tasty.
  • Crafted beautiful out of single stone. This shiv temple give to a sense of inner peace even tough located on one of the busiest roads of Pune. Not many people know about this place. Great archeological sight.
  • Jangali maharaj temple on top and caves are near to it.Very silent calm place.Saw students reading and family sitting.Meditate and pray.Bring own water as water cooler doesnt work.
  • The shiva temple, far away from city "shor(crowd)" but still located in heart of city.... Best place to visit if you require some peace of mind, also it's very cool place in summer season...
