Pataleshwar Cave Temple, Pune

4.0
Visit Pataleshwar Cave Temple, a hermetic rock-cut complex dedicated to Hindu deities Pataleshwar and Shiva. Because of its construction during the Rashtrakuta period (700 to 800 CE), the site now enjoys protection as a religious monument. Explore the circular nandi mandapa, a pillared outdoor hall that stands in front of the cave. Outside of the basalt stone entryway hangs a brass bell, while the cube-shaped inner sanctum decorated with symbols of Shiva calls devotees to pray and make offerings. Visit the museum nearby, especially since it houses a peculiar Guinness World Record holder: a single grain of rice with 5,000 characters inscribed on it. • One of the top tourist attractions of India due to its splendid structure carved of stone. The serenity and calmness of the temple is worth spending all the time and efforts. Visitors enjoy a free entry and loads of blessings in the temple. An ideal place to spend quality time with friends and family.
  • A temple. serene, peaceful and devoid of any rush, yet in the middle of the city. Tried some luck with my iPhone here and clicked some shilloutte pictures. Centuries old temple and a pic in front of the old tree is a must. Usually college students sit in the lawn and work on their assignments or listen to music.
  • Shiv Ling temple caves located in the middle of the Pune city near Jangali maharaj math. Very calm place. Caves are quite old. Not much carvings on the caves though. Good place to visit with kids. Not easily noticeable from road.

Where to stay in Pune

South-east of the main train station sit most of the accommodations on offer in Pune, with the choice largely revolving around standard hotels featuring small pools and restaurants. You can find some more luxurious options in the more spread-out areas to the north of the city center, and along the rivers that flow through town. Hostels and guesthouses provide budget-friendly options, with the bulk located near the university accommodation districts, and the side streets of the older parts of town.
