Pataleshwar Cave Temple, Pune

4.1
Visit Pataleshwar Cave Temple, a hermetic rock-cut complex dedicated to Hindu deities Pataleshwar and Shiva. Because of its construction during the Rashtrakuta period (700 to 800 CE), the site now enjoys protection as a religious monument. Explore the circular nandi mandapa, a pillared outdoor hall that stands in front of the cave. Outside of the basalt stone entryway hangs a brass bell, while the cube-shaped inner sanctum decorated with symbols of Shiva calls devotees to pray and make offerings. Visit the museum nearby, especially since it houses a peculiar Guinness World Record holder: a single grain of rice with 5,000 characters inscribed on it. • This temple is oldest, created out of a big single stone. Not much to see here. Max. 20-30 minutes is enough. I visited on a working day, by 4.30 PM. There was no rush. Worth a visit one time, to see ...  more »
  • Good place which is not visible much from outside. Unless you enter inside the caves one can not imagine about the place. Only thing is which bothers me is caves are converted into temple.  more »
  • We went their in the evening and found it to be peaceful. People were mediating sitting on ground in front of main temple. It appears to be kept in original form with no beautification etc. There was ...  more »

  • The cave temple has everything carved. It is unbelievable how a single rock could have been cut into a whole temple along with it's idols. This place offers the mind and body to cool and is a delight during heavy summers. What surprised me the most is the cave temple is built in between the city! And don't be fightened to not find any caves at the first sight, since those are two different temples built together with the same entrance.
  • Awesome place to visit with friends and family too. Food outside is so tasty. Too peaceful place. Can spend almost half day. Can be a picnic spot or relaxation point.
  • The temple is carved by cutting rocky area.. with beautiful caves built inside.. Its a v old Shiva temple and you will feel v blessed and cool inside even in hot climate!
  • Serenity is what you will feel when your footsteps enter this well carved temple. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, it has a compact and well maintained stone form. Small caves add to the excitement a bit. Also, a temple is located just beside the caves which adds to its calmness. Pataleshwar temple has free entry. There's not much in it, but if you want some peace in day, go ahead and have a visit...Overall a visit is worth it.
  • Pataleshwar caves is located at the most surprising place in Pune, on one of the busiest road, the Junglee Maharaj road. It's called Pataleshwar because it's a rock cut temple and dedicated to Lord Shiva. This is a place which is always calm, soothing and really relaxing at any point of the day. Visit to this place always allows you to be in peace amidst of all the chaos of your day to day life.
