Bhuleshwar Temple, Pune

(4.6/5 based on 140+ reviews on the web)
Perched on a hilltop and surrounded by a fortified stone wall, Bhuleshwar Temple dates back to the thirteenth century and has both historical and mythological significance (Goddess Parvati seduced Lord Shiva here by dancing for him). At this non-commercialized, operating Shiva temple, you can offer your prayers and admire the magnificent rock-cut architecture and intricate carvings inside. Pay special attention to overhead wall panels as the only place in India where all the male gods appear in their female avatar. A bird watcher’s paradise, the surrounding area hosts various migratory species during the summer (including tawny eagles). Bring your own food as nothing is available near the temple. • Very nice place in Pune which is the ancient temple built by Panch Pandva in a one night along with Bharat temple in Bharatgaon. It's very nice to visit Math in this mountains near gangotri
  • Very old temple with excellent art work and sculptures. Sadly many of them are destroyed by invaders and like in the past. Easily reachable by vehicles this is the place to enjoy a picnic. Carry food and water as there is nothing near by.
  • Its a site under control of Archeological Survey of India. Ancient Temple surrounded by a micro forest reserve. Visit it for ancient architecture and serene natural beauty during rainy season. Currently under restoration. Over couple of thousand sculptures. Its simply spellbinding.
