Observe and inspect a wide variety of plant and animal life at Pondicherry Botanical Gardens. Originally established in 1826 by French colonists to test out crop cultivation in the region, the gardens have since grown into an informative center, with trees and shrubs labeled for easy identification. If you're traveling with children, they will enjoy the playground and toy train ride; keep your eyes peeled for the fossilized trees on the site. A small refreshment stand in the gardens serves snacks and drinks. To visit Pondicherry Botanical Gardens on your trip to Pondicherry, use our Pondicherry travel itinerary planner.

  • interesting visit, don t miss the coton tree... the biggest i have ever seen, also african mahogany (oldest of the country)... Scientific name of the trees would be appreciable.
  • This is a very nice park and garden to visit in Pondicherry. Most of the old trees are there now. The place is very big, but the play area is not up to mark. Maintenance is not good.
  • Our experience was good, it's good for a visit with young children. The park was very enjoyable, the joy train ride was good.It wil be great if they do necessary maintainance.
