French War Memorial, Pondicherry

(2.3/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Take a stroll through French War Memorial, dedicated to soldiers who sacrificed their lives in World War I. Built in 1971, it stands opposite to a Gandhi statue in the French quarter. Every year on Bastille Day (July 14), swarms of tourists and families of fallen soldiers gather to pay their respects here, the monument is illuminated to solemnly mark the occasion. Visit the beach nearby to enjoy the cool breeze and warm sand. From there, you can take photographs of the stark white memorial contrasted by a green backdrop.
