Where to stay in Pondicherry

The bulk of visitors to Pondicherry choose to stay in the east side of town. Close to the sea and the well-maintained waterfront, the old colonial French district features a number of stylish boutique hotels and budget-friendly guesthouses, as well as a solid selection of standard hotels along the newer roads. Ashrams and spa retreats provide an array of additional facilities, usually with sea views and more spacious surroundings to the north of the main city.

  • Very good place and location to visit with family/friends, nice experience and wonderful views of the coastline, plenty of opportunity for photo-selfies  more »
  • We went there in the late morning (around 12.00PM) and lost our energy in hot summer. I suggest you to go in the evening. Beach is neat. But the foods are very bad. Not worth for money (food). Don't f...  more »

  • The boat house is regular fare with a variety of boats available for either going to Paradise beach or boating in the Chunnambar back waters. Speed boating in the back waters is fun. The boats are well maintained. Shared boat rides to Paradise beach will depart only when the whole boat has been booked, not at some specific intervals or timings. Ample parking is available and parking is paid. Rates for boats are reasonable. There is a small restaurant where some decent snacks are available
  • Excellent place to visit. It is very hot t here in June. We took a motor boat ride to paradise Island. The cost was 200 rs per adult. You can swim on the Paradise beach. There is a good Changing room there. There is a restaurant there too which served very economical food. Probably changes in Season times. Parking facility was available at the boat house and soul be ample for large number of vehicles. June - very few visitors. The boatmen were very polite. They are very cautious about safety. There is a house boat available as well.
  • It was wonderful. There are few things to be improved. No of washrooms to be increased. Sitting arrangements on the paradise beach should be increased. In the boats sufficient no of life jackets should be provided. There is no first aid facility at beach which takes 20 odd minutes to commute from boat house. If any visitor gets sick he or she may not survive this journey.
  • You have to go through here to take the ferry for Paradise beach. It has ample parking, and entrance fee is levied (in addition to parking charges). Check posts are there to make sure no alcohol goes through. There is a cafĂ© here if you want to eat or buy water bottles (recommended).
  • Couldn't really visit the Paradise beach after two attempts. Very crowded. Staff are very rude. With people waiting on the queue they leave for lunch without announcements. They treat visitors very shabbily. Parking is always crowded and no one to guide you. Tourists are taken for granted and not treated well. Just another horrible tourist place that is lousy and greedy.
