Take a trip to the Basilica of Bom Jesus to visit Tomb of St. Francis Xavier. The UNESCO-protected church was consecrated in 1605, making it one of the oldest churches in Goa. Step inside to see the tomb of St. Francis Xavier, one of the founders of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). The silver casket containing the saint's remains sits on top of an impressive mausoleum, which took 10 years to construct. Admire the impressive architecture, murals depicting the life of St. Francis Xavier, and the elaborate gilded backdrop of the altar. Walk along the marble floor, inlaid with precious stones. Every 10 years, thousands of devotees flock to the site to see an exhibition of the body of St. Francis Xavier, hoping to benefit from his supposed miraculous healing powers. • it is an old small sized chapel used by the saint himself. Many are uploading pics of "Bom Jesus Basilica" and they cant be blamed as it is the basilica that houses the remains of the saint.
  • Not thrilled with the interior of the building and would say the two churches on the other side of the road (especially the cathedral) are less garish and of far more interest. Worth a look as it's a highlight of Old Goa but it appeals least of the three adjacent religious structures.
  • Very nice old Church in old goa
