#66 of 426 in Things to do in Goa
St. Cajetan's Church is the only domed church in Goa. Built by Italian friars in the 17th century, the building is an example of Corinthian architecture, with some Baroque elements and gilded altars. • This is in my opinion the most beautiful church in this town, located in a peaceful park, and very well maintained. Beautiful baroque altars, an impressive dome, and interesting history in this church...  more »
  • During the tour from the "Guiding Star" "Goa-little Portugal" with an interesting tour guide Boris visited shrine, where colonization embalmed corpses to send them to Portugal. This is the Church of the Holy Maury. Material from the Internet: it was built in 1661 by monks of the Italian order of the theatines according to plan. Peter's in the Vatican. It is a white building in the Italian Baroque style, with a dome and beautiful vaulted ceiling. The Church is dedicated to, ironically, the Holy Virgin Mary of Divine Providence. This paradox is very simply explained. Double name is associated with a path that is selected in the service of the Holy Kajetanom Tienskim (1480-1547) was one of the founders of the monastic order of the theatines, which the brothers hope solely on Providence and never searched for neither wealth nor fame, nor even Mercy, expecting everything will come by itself. In 1639 g. Pope Urban VIII sent three Italian monks theatines-Pedro Avitabili, Francesco Marchi and Antonio Adridzoni — evangelize in Golkondu (district of Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh). But there they are not allowed, and in 1640 g. fathers settled in Goa, where they began to build the hospital. In 1643, Vice ...

  • St Cajetan is another 'minor' church of Goa Velha, slightly off the main tourist area and worth the (really little) effort. Beautiful imposing architecture with a big beautiful dome, a massive sculpte...  more »

  • This Church has a Majestic facade with a dome on top. It has some good paintings. A painting of Mother Mary breastfeeding child Jesus is an unique painting. The Pastoral Institute of the Archdiocese of Goa is adjacent to it.
  • Goa is not a very diverse state. Almost all of the people residing in Goa follow the same religion, Christianity. Since Christianity is the most widely followed religion here, there are many churches in the state. Churches take a very important part in the life of the residents of Goa. The Church of St. Cajetan is one of the most famous churches in Goa. The church possesses a very strong resemblance with the popular St. Peters Basilica church located in Rome. The Church of St. Cajetan is nearly 2 decades old, but the church has been very well preserved and one will not be able to guess the age of the church just by looking at it. One should definitely visit this church as they will get to know about the religion here. Location- Velha Goa, Goa 403402 How to reach there from Panaji- Church of St. Cajetan is very close to Panaji and one can take a cab, bus or auto to reach there...
  • Very nice church. Located behind Se Cathedral, less crowded place in the old Goa.. Tourists usually go to Se Cathedral and museum of Archeological society and Basilica of Bom Jesus.
  • This church is one of the most magnificent one, beautifully carved and the center area of the church hall is having a beautiful square platform in the center of the hall.
  • Beautifully decorated church. A must visit place.

Where to stay in Goa

One of the more affordable regions for staying in India, Goa offers a good range of sleeping options, from budget to luxurious. Visitors looking for that feeling of home away from home can explore rental apartments, which offer more space than a hotel room and often come with fully equipped kitchens. Look for an apartment in Oxel or Siolim, peaceful villages with gated communities and a range of facilities. Beach houses and private villas offer an alternative for those with deeper pockets, while beach huts/shacks work well for budget-conscious travelers.
