#32 of 525 in Things to do in Goa
One of the largest churches in Asia, Se Cathedral reminds visitors the glory days colonial Portugal enjoyed in this part of the world. Dedicated to Saint Catherine of Alexandria, this cathedral features classic Portuguese-Manueline style, with a tall tower housing a large bell known for its rich tone. Intricately ornamented altarpieces, elaborate ornaments, and a baptismal font once used by Saint Francis Xavier are among the highlights inside the church. • Nice church to visit when you are in Old Goa. Well maintained n have museum near it. In front of church there is Jesus statue, which looks divine. Overall good place. Inside, there are various Jesus periodical status placed which looks divine. Various saying/quotes from Bible are quoted on wall. Structural architecture is awesome. Moreover, When I had visited this church there very wedding was going on, felt delighted to watch goan wedding. Note:- dress code is prescribed at gate prior visiting inside church. Especially for ladies, legs should be covered; head scarf comes handy at this time.
  • The construction of Se Cathedral in Goa started in 1562 and ended in 1652. The interior is laid out in a traditional cruciform shape, even though the exterior appears rectangular. The interior architecture is Corinthian. The main altar is dedicated to St Catherine of Alexandria. Besides the main altar there are eight chapels along the sides of the nave and six altars at the transept.
  • Nice church. A must in Goa. Beautiful environment and great architecture. Added to that on river bank garden. Awesome place
  • Among one of the most visited churches in Goa by locals and visitors. No tour of Goa is complete without visiting these churches. So much of history here. There are government appointed tourist guides here who explain all the details. One has to be dressed modestly to enter the churches here. No visitors are allowed if church service is in progress.
