  • The Foundation of this monastery dates from 1572, under the orders of Friar Anthony of passion. In 1602 it was started the final by the Augustinian Friars who had hands in India the your highest moment during the time of d. Aleixo de Meneses, who belonged to this order. It is therefore your responsibility of the construction of this monastery. What remains today of the Church of the convent of St. Augustine, consecrated to our Lady of grace, is an impressive and extensive destruction, but we can through it to realize the greatness of this monastery, the grandiose dimensions of his Church, its rich decoration of the walls in the mid-18th century tiles, visible in many points of the ruins. The convent of St. Augustine, was a common area, with large dormitories, dining hall, hostel, Ward, etc., completing this multi-storey housing area with four chapels: the provincial of the Priors, our Lady of the Rosary and of our Lady of the assumption. The best way to visit these ruins is with a competent Guide. As we know today, this temple complex, is the result of neglect and sloppiness, the Portuguese administration and the Government of the Republic of India, since this building was of historic and heritage during the collapse of the Dome Church in 1846 (?), nobody cared. Was continuously left abandoned and at the mercy of the looting, until you reach the scenario that we know today. For more pleasant to be visiting these ruins, with the view of the impressive ruin of the 46-meter-high tower, which is a few copies of Portuguese tiles, sepulchral stones, no more than a faint sample of what was and what could still be this magnificent monastery. The your condition could be better. If you have time visit. I don't think a must. In your surroundings there are many must-see attractions and in better shape. When visiting this scenic monastic complex, you will be able to meet with any team of Bollywood, who reportedly like to shoot here.

  • Situated on the Holy Hill in Old Goa, the first thing you notice on the approach road, is the lone 46 meter high tower of St. Augustine, which was part of the church. Only half of the tower stands, the rest collapsed during 1931.The church is in ruins, and there is not much left except for bricks and some altars, including the foundation walls. It is quite a sad and humbling experience, walking among these ruins & marvelling the size and structure this church once occupied. Some sections of this church have been blocked off due to restoration or because it is not safe to enter. Don't forget to walk down at the side of the boundary walls, where there are some notice boards put up, detailing the history & conservation done to preserve & unearth the various columns and artefacts.
  • The ruins of this historical church are in Old Goa, with the tower of St. Augustine being visible from far away. There is not much of a crowd here. It is spread over quite a large area
  • Must-visit place! This is probably the oldest church in India. Spread over a huge area but only a few walls and columns and a part of the belfry still stands.
  • This Church Was Built by Augustinian Monks during 1572-1602 in old Goa, and This is considered the oldest church in old Goa. It's ruins are witnessing that it was a great and grand architectural marvel with four storied towers as facad as only one is visible and whole church turned to ruins. It's bell is still ringing in the Panjim Church which was shifted in 1871.
  • A very very old Church's ruins. It's nice that gov has not yet demolished it. Place takes you in the past. Single high tower, half collapsed, is kinda spooky.
