This is one more church of Old Goa complex. This church is not very impressive from outside as it is not maintained. However, from inside it is as good as other church of old Goa.  more »

Is a very simple Chapel, with nothing in your interior than the silence of our contemplation, which underwent many alterations during the centuries and needs restoration. On the occasion of the exhibition of the relics of St Francis Xavier in 1952, was the first building to suffer intervention under the direction of the architect Baltasar de Castro, an official of the General Directorate of National buildings and monuments, a great restoration and sanitation operation of Old Goa. This intervention was not free of controversy, and controversy, because the chapel underwent some changes and not just restore, but is listed along with the other temples of Goa Velha in the Unesco World Heritage site. Currently this Chapel is beautifully framed in a garden and surrounded by Palm trees and other tall trees, making it a mandatory photo site. The Chapel is very photogenic and hopefully continue, because your condition is not the best and need an intervention to sustain some signs of degradation, to preserve this small legacy of humanity. On its back is an old Portuguese cemetery, where you can enjoy some interesting tombstones for coffin and other archaeological artifacts from the era. In 1510, Afonso de Albuquerque's troops entered the town of Goa, on the day of Santa Catarina. A chapel was built near the door of the Muslim wall, where the Portuguese invaded. It was a modest building of rammed earth and straw coverage, according to order of Afonso de Albuquerque and performed by Diogo Fernandes. The chapel stood near the site of the Royal Hospital, which stood North of the convent of San Francisco and close to the Arsenal (has not survived to our days). It was rebuilt in 1550 by order of Governor George Cabral, in 1607 and reformed during the 19th century, was under the care of the Franciscans, before returning to the secular clergy and the administration of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and suffer the ultimate renovation in 1952. The simple Chapel of Santa Catarina is a must-see. Simplicity has your place in history and art.

The Chapel St. Catherine is located near the Church of St Francis of Assisi, down below. Badly maintained, she exudes a little bit sad but touching simplicity. Just beside cemetery has a few interesting funeral plates.

Unfortunately this place is totally rundown. There are no details about the structure or it's history either.

Entrance of the chapel is in the opposite side of the churches, so the place will be ignored or some might not see

This Chapel, built in the 16th Century, is the first Christian structure in Goa and is frequently ignored by the usual tourist crowd. Built in the early 1500s to commemorate the reconquering of Goa from Adil Shah by Albuquerque. And later rebuilt in mid 1500s with laterite stone blocks. This Chapel lacks the granduosity of other Old Goan churches and there's nothing much to see around, except for altar and the stone inscription in Portuguese.

Cool, calm & serene Chapel, The place seems to be secluded , the number of tourists visiting the place is very less although being a very significant place.

Where to stay in Goa

One of the more affordable regions for staying in India, Goa offers a good range of sleeping options, from budget to luxurious. Visitors looking for that feeling of home away from home can explore rental apartments, which offer more space than a hotel room and often come with fully equipped kitchens. Look for an apartment in Oxel or Siolim, peaceful villages with gated communities and a range of facilities. Beach houses and private villas offer an alternative for those with deeper pockets, while beach huts/shacks work well for budget-conscious travelers.
