Palani Murugan Temple, Palani
Categories: Architectural Buildings, Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
On top of Palani Hills, the shrine of the Lord Muruga at Palani Murugan Temple attracts thousands of devotees each year. According to legend, the god's idol was created by one of Hinduism's 18 great siddhas (perfected ones) out of an amalgam of nine poisons or navapashanam. As you approach the entrance, notice how many artistic sculptures of parrots, deer, peacocks, and the divine tree decorate the exterior. Explore the temple's inner sanctum filled with works of art and examine the ancient paintings from the Nayak period (1529-1736). Climbing the hill can get tiring, so hitch a ride on a rope car to reach the temple with ease. Put Palani Murugan Temple into our Palani tour planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.
