Jahangir Mahal, Orchha

(4.5/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Witness one of the most vivid examples of 17th-century Mughal architecture at Jahangir Mahal, built to honor Prince Jahangir's visit to Orchha. In addition to an abundance of hanging balconies, porches, and apartments, the majestic three-story citadel features three domed towers--built according to Timurid traditions, they are large enough to accommodate war elephants. You can easily spot the citadel from miles away; once up close, you can spy monkeys resting on its walls. Hire a local guide to give you a full experience of this well-maintained, richly historical attraction. By using our Orchha itinerary builder, you can arrange your visit to Jahangir Mahal and other attractions in Orchha.

  • The beautiful palace in Orchha really takes you back in time with its wonderful depictions of " ladies in waiting " , pictures of the countryside as well as every day life in early India. The " drawing...  more »
  • Dating back to the XVII e S, this Palace was built for a Mughal emperor who spent only one night! After that, nobody came.. .or don't get involved; What explains the deterioration of the premises. Yet there are interesting remains, including the façade decorations all turquoise and cobalt blue. around a large courtyard square four pavilions at pinnacles, over 130 rooms on the ground floor and the floors, 100 for military use in the basement, u walkway and narrow, tortuous, labyrinthine staircases to serve. Two elephants guard the ceremonial gate (photo). In short! a degraded but interesting set by its styles.

  • It is very good fort for travellers who want to visit orchha ... The king of orchha named this fort jahangir mahal because at that time the mugal emperor jahangir was coming here only for one day so the king of orchha made this for showing the friendship and respect between mugals and bundela but unfortunately the king of delhi jahangir hasn't been here.... Travellers can easily find the mixture of indian and mugal arts in this fort ....
  • Beautiful entry gate, and the chajja architecture which includes elephant are very fine work of art. The main highlight is inlay work at ceiling
  • I was there at evening. Nice place. And not much rush was there.
  • Beautiful old palace, located by the river, nice view from the top
