Dam
Nestled in the foothills of the Himalayan mountains, Tehri Dam is one of the world's highest dams and the highest one in India. During the dam's construction, the project was contested by human rights activists and environmentalists, who questioned the geological stability of the structure. Despite this, the site remains one of the region's top attractions--the walk along the embankment offers scenic views and numerous photo opportunities. • Would say we were very very lucky not only to go inside the Tehri dam, but also stayed there for a night, with the help of a very good friend. Have read a lot about the dam, how controversial it was, how many people lost their homes, how many people were displaced, and how long it took to construct. But if you see it from the engineering side, it is really a wonderful marvel. It is not a solid dam, but an earth filled dam, having a width of nearly one km at the base and tapers off as the wall rises. Constructed in a place which is prone to earth quakes, with the russians help. The hi security, the roads they have made on the walls of embankment, the tunnels, and the nice friendly staff who explained us how electricity generation takes place etc. The engineers were explaining about the unique feature of the Third damn or tunnel three, where they are doing something different from the other two dam. Definitely worth a visit for engineering students, who can learn a lot from such wonderful trips.
  • Speechless to express coordination of nature's offering and human skill.. I give four stars because there is always room at the top.Congratulations.
