  • The temple will bring you closer to idea of jains. No violence, no leather and no photos inside. It's nothing very-very special (if you compare to e.g. Ranakpur jain temple), but being around the Red ...  more »
  • This temple is the oldest known in Delhi. It is located in front of the Red Fort, Chandni Chowk's historic area. Its red sandstone construction draws attention by far.

  • quite pretty on the outide with striking colors. inside photos are forbidden although you can keep your phone and camera with you. worth a visit. and very close to the red fort so it can be done in a moment
  • A very old Jain temple in Delhi. Old Delhi's Jain residents contributed to build this temple generations ago. This temple is very valued in Jain religion. People come from far off places to visit this temple. It is built in red Sandstone. It also has a charitable bird hospital in the premises, which functions on the donations from the temple as well as common people. It signifies the main motto of Jainism, that is "live and let live". The place is very serene and calm.

It is directly across from the Red Fort in the historical Chandni Chowk area. It is known for an avian veterinary hospital in a second building behind the main temple. It is known as the Jain Birds Hospital. Located just opposite the massive Red Fort at the intersection of Netaji Subhas Marg and Chandni Chowk, Digambar Jain Temple is the oldest Jain temple in the capital, originally built in 1658.An impressive red sandstone temple today (the temple has undergone many alterations and additions in the past and was enlarged in the early 19th century), Shri Digambar Jain Lal Mandir is popularly known as Lal Mandir "Red Temple".
  • A bit crazy, and chaotic feeling. unfortunately the bird hospital was closed when I went. But instead of seeing birds cared for, I saw a drunk man walk up with a bag and dump a paraplegic cat on the ground. The cat tried to crawl to a safe spot but couldn't move it's back half of it's body (probably run over by a car). The doorman eventually picked up the cat and took it to a garbage pile and put it there where it was less upsetting to see. Oh, and they offer marijuana for puja in the temple.
  • Visited on Sunday. Beautiful place. It is a very old Jain temple. It is serene and you get a feel of spirituality. It is adjacent to a bird hospital. Ground floor has a jain library. It also has a meditation center. A few blocks away is typical Indian breakfast- halwa nagori, kachori besmirch, and puri.
