Raj Ghat, New Delhi

4.1
See a moving memorial to the father of the nation at Raj Ghat. Situated at the spot where Mahatma Gandhi was cremated, the memorial consists of a stone footpath that leads visitors through well-maintained lawns to a walled enclosure. In the enclosure sits a black marble platform, exposed to the elements and with an eternal flame burning at one end. Take off your footwear before entering the enclosure to pay your respects to the leader of the Indian independence movement. Put Raj Ghat and other New Delhi attractions into our New Delhi sightseeing planning tool, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • It is a beautiful place. There are very good quotes by Mahatma Gandhi written along the sides. Its more suited to visit this place with family or if you are serious about the importance of this place. One good thing from this is that we did not have to walk around on the soil and turf without our shoes on. The site is very large and very respectful to a great man. The eternal flame pays due homage.
  • Memorial of Mahatma Gandhi - Father of our nation. People consider it as a Holy place. So people show great respect and pray. The garden is great. It is decorated with variety of flowers and plants. Usually very crowded. I think mornings and evenings are best time to visit here.
  • Raj Ghat is a memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi in Delhi, India. It has a beautiful garden around it. It is a black marble platform that marks the spot of Mahatma Gandhi's cremation. It is left open to the sky while an eternal flame burns at one end. And a Gandhi Mususem next to it, which is worth visiting to learn about the Great man. Entry is free and it's worth a visit for its a place where you can sit and relax, while being at the resting place of the father of the nation.
  • It is a beautiful place. I would suggest you to visit it in the morning to enjoy the peace and experience nature because there are lots of tourists during the day. There are very good quotes by Mahatma Gandhi written along the sides.
  • We were unable to get close because the armed forces were practicing their parading for Independence Day. One good thing from this is that we did not have to walk around on the soil and turf without our shoes on. The site is very large and very respectful to a great man. The eternal flame pays due homage. Approaching the site there are plaques with numerous quotes from Gandhi which carry deep meaning. Local people absorb this area as part of their life, but do not abuse it. They smile, enjoy and respect - great to see.
