National Gandhi Museum, New Delhi
Categories: Specialty Museums, Museums
Get to know the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi at National Gandhi Museum. The collections began shortly after his assassination in 1948, and after several relocations, the museum was finally settled in its present location in 1961. Be sure to check out the library, a huge showcase of works from Gandhi and other authors adding up to over 35,000 documents and books. You do not need to be an art lover to enjoy the gallery, which features paintings and other items of Gandhi's. Keep an eye out for his walking stick, shawl, and dhoti worn when he was assassinated. You can also inspect Gandhi's ivory toothpick, and even one of the bullets used to kill the famous leader. A very pleasant visit if you like culture. This museum is very large so it took us a full afternoon to see everything.
I don't know why I was expecting more of this museum. It was very plain and bare-bones. It had a lot of photos and mementos of Ghandi. He lived a very simple life and this museum reflects that.

Free (maintained by small donations), well organized museum displaying lots of pictures of Gandhi and friends/family, along with some info texts both in Hindi and English about some history, principles and quotations. Certainly worth visiting while in Delhi (2-4h).
