Gangapur Dam, is an earthfill dam on Godavari river near Nasik in the state of Maharashtra in India.SpecificationsThe height of the dam above lowest foundation is 36.59m while the length is 3902m. The volume content is 4612km3 and gross storage capacity is 215880.00km3.Due to silt deposition in the reservoir area, the storage capacity of the dam has gradually reduced. The right side canal running towards Nashik is also closed due to the high civilization in the area. For these two reasons, an upstream dam, Kashypi Dam, is constructed which opened in 1998.Purpose Irrigationone of the earthen dam having emergency spillway

  • During our visit in Nashik it was closed and no access for public. According to the guard, June to October (Rainy season) it will be closed and public are not allowed to enter there. 
  • Very good place to visit during all times a year especially post monsoons. Backwaters with all wine yards around is a treat to eyes and soul 
  • Nothing to do here but just to hear the chirping of birds & enjoy the wind and the sea. Entrance for public I think is not allowed unless you can bribe the guard there.
