Wine Capital of India
Whether you want to tour important religious sites or explore the city's 22 wineries, you'll have no shortage of things to do in Nashik. Located on the western edge of the volcanic Deccan Plateau at the bend of the Godavari River, the city features three historic forts that once guarded this important strategic point. Hindu devotees dip in the holy Ramkund tank, a place where Rama is believed to have bathed while staying in Nashik, while a nearby forest with waterfalls conjures scenes from the Ramayana epic. One of the holiest cities for Hindus and an important pilgrimage site, Nashik hosts one of the largest peaceful gatherings in the world, Maha Kumbh, where tens of millions come to see five sacred banyan trees and countless shrines. Sample spicy missals, go shopping in one of the many malls in the city, or pick up some fine silverware. A coin and an aerospace museum round out the cultural attractions in Nashik. Whether you only want to go to Nashik, or have a whole adventure planned, Inspirock has you covered with our user-friendly India trip site.
