Saint Philomena Church, Mysuru (Mysore)

(4/5 based on 700+ reviews on the web)
Admire the conversation between East and West at Saint Philomena Church, an attractively designed and atmospheric Catholic church. Constructed in 1936, the place of worship remains one of the largest such buildings in the country, with its twin towers and traditional cross-shaped floor plan taking particular influence from Cologne's cathedral. The striking Neo-Gothic exterior dominates the surrounding urban area, while the interiors showcase fine examples of the blend of Indian and European influences characteristic of the colonial era--note some of the female statues wearing local traditional dress. Our Mysuru (Mysore) travel itinerary maker makes visiting Saint Philomena Church and other Mysuru (Mysore) attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Ancient church a giants premise. It feels like you're somewhere else. Church is very beautifully constructed. A one of the main attraction in Mysuru. It has secret path also where all the names of donors are written on the wall.
  • Could see this beautiful church only from the outside as some renovations are going on and no one is allowed to go inside right now. But still was worth visiting. The whole feel in this place was very calming. Walking around the towering structure is a very humbling experience. Really enjoyed the serenity and silence all around.
  • Amazing place to visit.. amar akbar anthony movie was shot in this church
  • Ancient Church of German architecture and apparently funded and built by the then Maharaja of Mysore. Beautiful stone design and well maintained, although there's a bit of renovation and restoration construction happening to the interiors of the church. Something unique about this church is an underground Sanctum Sanctorum just below the main altar and its unique underground tunnel like exits to both the side of the church. Good to visit while in Mysore.
  • Biggest church I have ever seen so far and its under renovation when I went there .Blessed place in mysore . Beautiful work & it is so peaceful to be here. The ambience over here is so amazing that one will never want to come back.
