Melkote Kalyani, Mysuru (Mysore)
Categories: Historic Sites, Sacred & Religious Sites, Tourist Spots
Marvel at ancient stone carvings and relax around water talks with devotees at Melkote Kalyani, a huge complex of Hindu temples and ponds and the dwelling place of Lord Thirunarayana. Perched on a Narayanagiri Hill at 914 m (3,000 ft) above the sea level, this important 11th century pilgrimage site features a thousand years old temples hanging from boulder-strewn slopes. The place houses the Academy of Sanskrit Research with thousands of important manuscripts. Devotional songs and classical dance are performed at the active temples and the spot is very popular for Bollywood. Devotees flock here during Vairamudi festival. Melkote Kalyani is just one of the many highlights you can arrange to see using our world travel planner, Mysuru (Mysore) Edition.
