A colossal 6x8 m (16x24 ft) statue carved out of a single boulder, Chamundi Hill Bull Statue sits hilltop overlooking the monumental 1,000-step staircase and Mysore. Carved in situ in the mid-17th century, the famous Nandi attracts devotees and tourists from across the world. Regarded as a vehicle of Lord Shiva, this impressive statue, standing at nearly 1,000 m (3,000 ft) altitude, has a small cave temple behind it painted with white and ochre stripes. You reach the foot of the hill from Mysore, some 13 km (8 mi) away.
