Gun Hill, Mussoorie
Categories: Mountains, Historic Sites, Nature & Parks, Tourist Spots
Particularly popular with photographers, Gun Hill offers panoramic views of the surrounding area, including several ranges of the Himalayas. Take the 20-minute walk from the town center or opt to ride the cable car, whose short route yields a different perspective on the hill station and mountainous landscape. The hill received its name during the colonial era, when a gun mounted at the top of its water reservoir was fired at midday each day, so that residents could adjust their watches. Its on the top of Mussoorie. Cable car is available.... also can walk on foot. Doon valley on 1 side and Himalayan range on the other side is awesome view.
Only good thing about this is that you can view the city from height. But wasn't good from the budget prospect. Hiring ropeway after 1 hr line and then going up for nothing special is just pain. But t... read more »
I took a walk up the hill and was very happy with my decision. On any given day you need to wait an hour to get an entry to rope car. The uphill is not for elders though. At the top of the hill, it's ... read more »
Its a nice walk up if you are on a relaxed trip in Mussoorie. But the traffic is chaos on mall road and vendors are always after your life. Avoid the telescope, they show stupid stuffs like buildings. But a nice place to sit and relax. The games are fun though ;) Cons: food is expensive and inferior, crowded at times. Rope way is a waste of money.
I'd recommend visiting it atleast once, in spite of the salesmen. On a clear day, the view of the Himalayas from here is something you'd not want to miss. Buy a cup of hot ginger tea and enjoy the view!
Highest point in mussorie but you will hardly get to see the view coz the place is overflooded by stupid vendors with there stupid games you will hardly find a perfect spot to take any picture and worst of all its so dirty and stinky .... i hope authorities will do something about it or else it wont be a tourist spot anymore
wonder place .....n i always miss u Gun Hill with my besties.....
Great view. Too many salesmen. Gun Hill is on top of a hill which is reached by a ropeway from the Mall Road. Sadly, what should be a scenic area surrounded by natural beauty is inundated with small shops and stalls, selling souvenirs and hosting silly games. You are besieged by them from the moment you exit the ropeway on top. It's quite a pathetic start, but ignore them and head straight for the view points. There are some stunning views on offer. If you like, have a bite or two. You won't spend more than half an hour up here :)
