Hazarduari Palace, Murshidabad

(4.5/5 based on 160+ reviews on the web)
Reputedly one of the seven wonders of India, Hazarduari Palace holds one of the biggest collections of antiquities in the country, which includes the world’s second largest chandelier. McLeod Duncan built the Doric-style “palace of thousand doors” under the auspices of Mubarak Ali Khan (Nawab of Bengal) in the 19th century. The one thousand doors--of which 900 are false--were part of a cunning plan to confuse the enemy. See marble statues and oil paintings by Italian, Flemish, and French artists, old maps and manuscripts, weapons and thrones. Since 1985, the palace is under care of the Indian Archaeological Survey boasting a collection of over 4,700 items. • Build by Nawab Humayun Za, Desined by Duncan Macloid , opened on 1838, it is one of the greatest showpiece of Murshidabad as well as West Bengal, carrying the sign of history.
  • Modern palace, not much historic. Reasonably well maintained, after considering the huge unruly mob. Some of the exhibits are really unique. At Plassey, how the exploded Dutch gun killed Mir Mohan and finally contributed to the loss of Siraj-Ud_Daula was a new information.
  • I have visited this place for several times. Very good place with interesting history of Nawab Siraj ud doulla, Murshid Kuli kha, Mir cossim. People of History subject will love to visit.
  • The palace is good. The structures and paintings are good too but the guide won't wait to explain and just goes on and on. He quickly completes the your. Also the place is dirty and since there are no trees the sun bears all of us down. For foreign and new tourists, please do not ride the exciting tonga on your own as they would fool you into giving more money and upon your refusal will display an audacious atitude. Also since the Tonga Driver is a native he will attract support from the local folk and they might even take you to court
  • I Love this Place. This Place is Very Very Important For Indians History. The Nabab She raj Dolla Lives Here. He Control over “Bengals” “Bihar” & “Orisha” 12 Years.
