Anamudi Peak, Munnar
Categories: Mountains, Nature & Parks
With an elevation of 2,695 meters (8,842 Ft), Anamudi Peak stands the highest peak in Southern India. Part of a National Park, it shelters the largest surviving population of Nilghiri tahr and a newly discovered frog species (Raorchestes resplendens), as well as a number of other endangered species such as Asian elephants, Bengal tigers, Gaurs and lion-tailed macaque. Evergreen forests streaked with rivers cover the area, and a trekking tour will let you enjoy the views (and the smell) of these as well as tea plantations. Note, however, that you need a special permission for trekking from the Park authorities, and you can only go up to a specific point. Check ahead as it remains closed in certain months. Work out when and for how long to visit Anamudi Peak and other Munnar attractions using our handy Munnar trip itinerary builder.
