  • Stumbled across museum while trying to cross the main road outside. Was a nice break from the heat and hustle and bustle of Mumbai and an interesting way to spend a couple of hours.  more »
  • This spectacular Indo-Saracenic building is a must see in Mumbai, both outside and inside. A huge place, we only saw one part of the permanent exhibitions- the Natural World. Perhaps a little dated in...  more »

  • Good museum to visit. Has a decent collection of artifacts from the historical to the modern. The highlight is Akbar's armour and helmet. The museum's historical building is architecturally significant. On my latest visit, a collaborative exhibition, titled India and the World : A History in Nine Stories involving this museum; the British Museum, London and the National Museum, New Delhi was in place. There among other great artifacts was a stone axe which is about 1.7 million years old! To see something so old which is man made was mesmerizing.
  • The one place you can’t miss if you’re touring the city. This two storeyed, Victorian era museum is well maintained and new exhibits are added regularly. The museum is well divided into sections that make for easier access around. The museum canteen provides palatable food at reasonable prices, albeit one or two dishes are a bit pricey. The natural history section is mind blowing and one of my personal favourites. This museum is so good that I’ve been here thrice.. Don’t forget your student ID if you wanna get in for half the price ;)
  • Undoubtedly this station has it's own sound and people. This station contains 15 platforms and enormous amount of trains coming and going through. But it handles everything without a hurdle. Security, services provided by the station is really quite good. Specially well maintained hygiene is something other cities must adapt . One must spent time exploring the architecture of this station. Also known as Victoria station. Kudos to people & city who never sleep!
  • One of the best museum in the country. Must visit for people of all age. You easily need 3 hours to cover all the sections. They have a very good in-house cafeteria. Open on all 7 days of the week. It closes at 6:00 pm. Entry fee is Rs 85 for an adult and Rs 20 for a child. Camera fees is Rs 50
  • A lovely museum located in a gorgeous building. The surroundings are also very lush and green. Clearly pains have been taken to cut off the senses from the hustle and bustle of life just beyond the compound walls. The collection itself is nice... It gets really crowded on Fridays and Mondays. I really recommend taking the audio tours otherwise the collections are just articles to admire and move on.

Where to stay in Mumbai

In a cramped city like Mumbai, finding a budget hotel can present a serious challenge. Many business travelers and tourists choose to stay in South Mumbai, the oldest and richest neighborhood in the city. Accommodations here put you close to most top museums, restaurants, bars, art galleries, and shops. Proximity to major attractions comes at a premium price, though--not surprising for one of the most expensive cities in Asia. If you plan to visit on a tight budget, look for options near railway stations, but prepare for low-grade rooms and few or no amenities.
