Powai Lake, Mumbai (Bombay)
Categories: Bodies of Water, Nature & Parks
Stroll around Powai Lake and take in the peaceful atmosphere of the man-made lake, which once provided drinking water for the local city. During construction, the catchment of the lake covered an area of 2.1 sq km (0.8 sq mi) and up to 12 m (39 ft) deep. While the lake's depth remains the same, its catchment area now covers 6.1 sq km (2.35 sq mi). Look for wildlife along the banks, including crocodiles, white-throated kingfishers, spot-billed ducks, woolly-necked storks, butterflies, honeybees, and more. If you catch the right season, you'll see a carpet of pink balsam bushes encircling the lake.
